The End is Coming

Wow...where did the month of May go. As of today I have 2 days left of school. I am very behind in my reading for enjoyment points. I think I have a total of 19 now. So far this quarter I have read "Lucille Ball: Pioneer of Comedy" which was worth 4 points and "The Wedding" by Nicholas Sparks which is worth around 15 points (but not actually on the list). Right now I am reading "Aloha Summer" which is worth 10 points. I think I will have all my points buy the 27th. At least I really hope so. Oh well, the end is coming. Fast! Graduation will soon be here. I can't believe how fast 13 years goes. I can still remember getting on the bus my first day of kintergarden. It is so weird to think that when I leave on Friday, I will be done for the rest of my life at this school. I can't grasp that idea. I really liked my life at Holgate Local Schools, but I am looking forward to summer and starting college next fall. I had an open house at college on Thursday night and I met my roommate and saw where I will be living. The apartment is soooo nice and so is my roommate. I think it is going to be a blast.

So much to do...So little time!

Yes! I admit it! I've been slacking lately in the reading department. That will change soon though (hopefully). I have not had much time to read lately because I've been working on two research papers for my college classes along with other assignments. I have also been busy working at Johnson's Ice-cream Shoppe. It has been busy there due to the gorgeous weather. And yes, farming season has arrived already and the Thomas residence has again turned into a nut house. I should be able to start reading again next week though, because my research papers will be done and I will be finished with college (until June that is). Hopefully I will catch up on some points for Reading for Enjoyment (I think I have a total of 4 right now). I actually have missed reading. I'd rather spend time reading a Nicholas Sparks book instead of my Human Growth and Development textbook. Oh well, life will be less hectic
soon, only 18 days of high school left for me. WOO HOO ! Graduation is coming fast. So much to do...So little time!

Lucille Ball...Pioneer of Comedy

I recently read a short biography of Lucille Ball. The book was called "Lucille Ball Pioneer of Comedy" and written by Katherine E. Krone. I am working on a research paper for my college comp. class and I am writing it about Lucy. The book did not take long to read and it was interesting. I learned many things about Lucy and her life that I did not know. If you ever need a quick book to read, check out "Lucille Ball Pioneer of Comedy". You can find it in the biography section of the high school library. The book is worth 4 points in Mr. Kohl's class.

Hoot

I just finished reading the book "Hoot" by Carl Hiaasen. It was easy to read and I finished it fast. It is a book meant for younger readers but the story can easily be enjoyed by any age reader. Overall I really liked the book.

Finally Finished

I finally finished "The Rescue" by Nicholas Sparks. It was a very good book. Once I actually started reading it, I couldn't put it down.

The Notebook

I rented the movie "The Notebook" this past weekend. It was sooooo good. I ended up watching it three times. I would recommend that anyone who likes Nicholas Sparks books or romantic stories see this movie.

Oprah Winfrey: Spokeswoman for Reading

Oprah Winfrey is one of the biggest fans of reading that I have ever seen. She talks about reading all the time on her show. She stresses how important it is to educate your self. Oprah uses reading as a way to relax. She gives books away on her show as gifts and she always has a new book or author to tell about. Through out her years as a talk show host she has read many books, interviewed many authors, and even started her own book club. Her book club reminds me of a "Reading for Enjoyment" class, but for adults instead. Members of the Oprah Book Club read a book that Oprah has chosen and then they discuss it at a meeting or over the internet. Some of the books that Oprah has picked for her book club are on our reading list. If you would like to check out more about Oprah's Book Club or read through her book list, go to www.oprah.com and click on the "Oprah's Books" link.
